Return Fund

This fund supports measures in the areas of voluntary return and forced return of third country nationals who are staying in a member state illegally. The target groups are recognized refugees and people whose application for subsidiary protection was rejected. Integrated return management, intensive cooperation of member states in integrated return management, and effective and uniform application of shared return norms are examples of what is supported by this fund.

External Borders Fund

The following four goals are pursued with resources from this fund:

• Improvement of monitoring efficiency and thereby the effectiveness of external border protection in decreasing illegal entry
• Simplification and acceleration of entry of authorized people into the EU while simultaneously protecting the EU from illegal immigration
• Achievement of uniform enforcement of Community law through member states
• Improved efficiency in visa distribution and execution of other preliminary inspections
