Info for Migrants
What are your responsibilities in the 2011 IA?
The 2011 IA consists of two modules: module 1 and module 2:
- Module 1
Level A2 after 2 years: After receiving the initial residence permit in Austria, you have two years during which you must prove that you have reached level A2 in the European Framework of Reference for Languages. By doing so you fulfill Module 1 of the 2011 IA. Evidence of level A2 is to be provided with an accepted language certificate.
Attention: Please note the information on cost reimbursement below!
- Module 2
Level B1 for permanent residence and Austrian citizenship:
If you are applying for permanent residence in Austria and/or Austrian citizenship, you need level B1 German skills according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages. This level fulfills Module 2 of the Integration Agreement. Fulfilling Module 2 is not compulsory and is not reimbursed.
You are not required to attend courses, but it is recommended.
You are not required to attend a 300-hour course. It is also possible to not attend a course at all or to take fewer lessons than suggested. Many institutes also offer shorter courses on different levels.
- Do you want to take a course?
Look for an institute nearby.
- Is your German good enough already (level A2 or B1)? Look for an institute nearby and register for the test or register for one of the test dates on ÖIF's online platform.
How does one get reimbursed?
- The blue voucher: The authority responsible for you issues the blue voucher.
- German Integration Course: You have completed a course at a certified institute.
- 18 months: You have to reach level A2 and pass an ÖIF test after 18 months.
- DTÖ or ÖIF Test: You demonstrate your language skills with one of the two ÖIF tests: German Test for Austria (DTÖ) or ÖIF Test.
If you comply with these conditions, you have a right to financial aid. The financial aid covers a maximum of 300 class hours or 50% of the course costs, a maximum of €750.
What happens if someone cannot meet the Integration Agreement requirements within two years?
If there are serious reasons (ex. severe illness), you can apply to extend the time period for fulfilling the Integration Agreement.
Are you ready for the ÖIF Test or the DTÖ Test?
Is your German good enough or do you need more practice? With the help of our assessment you can check whether you understand the format of the ÖIF test well enough. The assessment test will be available soon.
Important: The assessment does not mean that you will automatically pass the test!
Applications for citizenship
All applications that were submitted before July 1, 2011, are to be completed according to the old regulation. For these applications the language level A2 continues to be a prerequisite to fufill the Integration Agreement. All applicants who sign the IA after July 1, 2011, must reach level B1.
