26 refugees receive the Liese Prokop Scholarship
The Liese Prokop Scholarships were given out on 24.3 at the AMS headquarters in Vienna's tenth district. The scholarships help refugees during their studies with 500 euros a month.
Refugees and migrants bring valuable experiences and skills with them from their countries. In order for them to have better opportunities on the labor market, the ÖIF has been supporting asylum beneficiaries in their studies with the Liese Prokop Scholarship since 2004.
ÖIF and AMS – Strong partners
The Prokop family and members of the ÖIF board of trustees were present at the scholarship ceremony. Johannes Kopf, head of AMS, gave out the scholarships for the first time and was pleased with the students' high level of commitment. "Qualifications are the best way to fight unemployment. The recipients are role models for others."
Alexander Janda, Managing Director of ÖIF, emphasized the successful cooperation between the AMS and ÖIF and looks forward to implementing projects together in the future.
Diversity enriches
The Liese Prokop Scholarship has been given out over 300 times so far. This time the recipients' fields of study ranged from medicine and business to computer science. One asylum beneficiary has registered for the teaching certification program in German and psychology-philosophy. The plan is to expand the scholarship in the fall semester 2010/2011 to include migrants as a target group.
