On October 21, 2026, Vienna's Heldenplatz will once again become a hub for career orientation: At the "Career Platform at Heldenplatz – Schools' Day," students can gain an overview of training opportunities and apprenticeships in Austria and connect directly with companies and trainers. The event is organized by the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMLV), the City of Vienna, and the Vienna Education Directorate. School classes can now register to participate. The event is aimed at students with and without a migration background from the 7th grade onward and offers them practical access to training opportunities in Austria. What is the career platform at Heldenplatz?
The Career Platform at Heldenplatz is an annual educational and informational event where students can learn about numerous apprenticeships and training programs – from automotive mechanics and cooks to administrative assistants. Numerous public institutions and companies present their training and entry-level opportunities on site. These include the Austrian Armed Forces, the Federal Ministry of Education, the City of Vienna, Wiener Stadtwerke (Vienna Public Utilities), and companies such as Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), Austrian Airlines, PORR, Spar, and Hofer. Last year, around 7,000 students took advantage of this opportunity to learn about more than 70 apprenticeships and to speak directly with training companies.

What program items are offered?
Young people can learn about around 70 apprenticeships and training opportunities and speak directly with trainers. They can also have their application documents professionally reviewed and get free professional photos taken. A diverse program of events offers highlights such as helicopter and tank tours, a military fitness course, the "Think: Monument Democracy" guided tour, and an interactive scavenger hunt. In addition to vehicle presentations by emergency services, Vienna's emergency responders will also present a demonstration on firefighting and extinguishing techniques.
Young people with foreign citizenship are less likely to undertake an apprenticeship.
The Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) places a particular focus on young people with foreign citizenship, who are underrepresented in apprenticeships. Around 102,900 apprentices were in training in 2025. Almost 17,700 (17.2%) of them were foreign nationals, while the remaining 85,200 (82.8%) were Austrian citizens. According to an analysis by the Economica Institute for Economic Research, apprentices without Austrian citizenship are underrepresented in vocational training and are less likely to choose an apprenticeship than Austrian citizens.
