Developing professional skills, learning from experienced managers, and preparing for new tasks: The Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) focuses on the professional development of its employees and opens up opportunities for further career advancement within the organization. Key components of its personnel development program include a dedicated junior management program and an internal mentoring program. These support employees in further developing their skills, taking on new tasks, and gradually assuming more responsibility.
Targeted preparation for leadership tasks
The junior leadership program is aimed at employees with leadership potential and prepares them specifically for possible future leadership roles. Training courses, practical projects, and further education strengthen professional, methodological, and social skills and combine learning with practical experience. In four cycles to date, over 50 employees have participated in the program. Since its inception, approximately 20 leadership positions have been filled by participants.
Sharing experiences and opening up perspectives
The junior management program is complemented by an internal mentoring program. Experienced employees act as mentors, supporting their colleagues in their personal and professional development, sharing their leadership experience, and providing insights into various areas of the organization. This personal exchange helps participants to strategically develop their skills and plan their next career steps.
9 out of 10 managers have further developed their skills at the ÖIF.
That this support opens up concrete career prospects is also evident among the managers: 9 out of 10 were already employees at the ÖIF before taking on their management role and have developed further within the organization.
At the same time, the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) offers people at the beginning of their careers the opportunity to gain initial professional experience, contribute their skills, and develop professionally. For many employees, the ÖIF is one of their first employers. This brings together people with diverse backgrounds and professional experiences – including employees with a migration background and those who themselves came to Austria as refugees. Many of them have taken on new tasks, assumed additional responsibilities, and further developed their careers within the ÖIF over the course of their employment.
Diversity also in leadership positions
These diverse backgrounds are also reflected in the composition of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF): around 60% of employees have a migration background, and around two-thirds of managers are women. In the first Vienna Integration Index, the ÖIF achieved first place among more than 100 participating organizations and, at 71%, had the highest proportion of women and people with a migration background in management positions.
